Introducing Lady Lee to Reggaedubwise
IRISH MOSS, June 06/26/09, 2009
Last night, my friend Meg Majors and I jump in the car and head out to Mansfield, Massachusetts from Cambridge. Meg had an assignment to cover 311/Ziggy Marley for reggaeville.com formerly reggaephotos.de. If you aren't a follower of reggaephotos.de soon to be reggaeville.com on July 1st, I suggest you follow this incredible gallery of live concert photos. The best in reggae are showcased.

We enter the stadium on time and I walk her to the press gate. I wheel and go to the lot to promote reggaedubwise.com, figuring it's the more important task. Cops see me handing out promotion for the site and think I'm selling weed. "GET HIM TOO!" they yell as I nod in their direction smiling. So I walk to them. They are very confused. They are in the process of busting a young woman for rolling a spliff. This is odd since I am in a state that has decriminalized marijuana under one oz for personal possession. Head cops said he thought I was selling something. I said I am. I am selling the best new reggae being made. I hand the biggest cop a card. "Is it a good site?" he asks me. "Would I walk up to a group of police and hand promote it if I wasn't proud of it?" Next thing they are all laughing after being asked what the meaning of Irish Moss may be. I let them know that Rasta don't work with the police so I should get moving because the kids are starting to get a bad idea here. I feel this is the best way to deal with the police as a Rastaman. Head on. No fear. Make them know. They apologize profusely for judging me. No trouble Chief.

Security lets me know there is a power outage and there will be a mass exodus. Show cancelled. Full capacity. Lovely. I call Meg and she runs fast. We beat the traffic out. We remember Lady Lee, an area performer has asked us to stop into Brockton after show to see her set. Would have been tight if we stayed for all of Ziggy. We head over there and find Club Progressions without a problem.

This will be the first night of a weekly night that Lady Lee is running in Brockton, Ma. We walk into a nice club. Friendly people greet us with smiles. Bartender has Guinness Extra Stout on bottle. This is turning better by the minute. An Empress points me in Lady Lee's direction. She smiled, waved and came over to greet us. Lady Lee is one of the nicest sistren I have ever met. She seems very happy we made it.

Iyah Sound the dj for her night is selecting some solid roots, dub and dancehall, old to new and has the place moving nicely. Nice vibes.

I then introduce myself to a bredrin that happens to be an artist from my area, Toussaint, that I have listened to for a few years now. I never had the opportunity to meet him by circumstance til this point. How interesting to be miles from home and finally meet a guy that has been in my general area for years. How it goes, I suppose. We had a nice conversation over 2 draw that I had in my pocket.

We hear Lady Lee take the mic and rush back in. That's when my jaw drop. Whoa. Fire. Pure fire. Lady Lee took control of that microphone like a general. I am awestruck with this talented and beautiful woman's skills on the mic. I have heard of her prowess with chat for years and I now see why. Just wicked. The intimate crowd is howling for more. She brings that old school authority of foundation that few young artist bring to the microphone of late. She ran a short but completely solid set witht he crowd not wanting to let her off the stage. She then called up Toussaint who blessed the audience with a special dedication "Two Draw of Herb".Selector Iyah Sound then did 2 numbers of quality conscious singjay stylee. Yea. Nice vibes. Wish yall could be there. Fortunately both artists you will be seeing very soon, right here on Reggaedubwise.com.

Ok folks. I have to jet quickly. Cheech Warner of Cheech and Heyba's Reggae Bubblers is picking me up to check out the group's rehearsal in South Beach. Looking forward to meeting Cheech and friends. I appreciate him reaching to me, after finding out I am in the area. They will be playing the Rise Up festival in Vermont on Saturday. If you are in that area, I suggest you check the festival out. There is a serious line up of artists.

Bear with me as I get in the riddim of this forum blog activity. It's a new thing for me. It's very rewarding to represent such a crucial community to the world in person.

Big up Lady Lee, Toussaint and Iyah Sound for a nice time last night. Big up Cheech for reaching to meet today.

Bless

The Blog Bug.
IRISH MOSS, June 06/16/09, 2009
So it's hit me. The blog bug. I bugged out on them the last few days tryin to get mind off of things.
Some folks are really amazing at these blogs. It occured to me I have no idea how to do it properly. I'd like to learn. Any suggestions? I'm serious too. I have never really done it and honestly am not as good as many here are with html and the rest of it.
I've been fascinated with hip hop blogs that chart the original source material of classic records. You truly have to be a serious head I suppose to spend hours, intrigued with where the beats from albums you loved when you were 16-22.
So I'm going to give it a shot this blog thing. I know I've said that before and I mean it. Carl's been into for em ages. Guys always ahead of me on the internet thing. Give thanks he is hip to all of these things. Old Moss is under a dub rock sometimes. :p

Upcoming adventures slated for the next week seems to be Ziggy Marley in Boston. Meg Majors, my good friend will be doing photo work for reggaephotos.de and I believe a pic or two will be here on the site. I'm considering trying to do an interview for the site. Is this something you guys are interested in? Never done this in person either and it's going to be interesting.

I'm all ears to anyone who wants to hit me with some information on this blogging thing. Can't hurt. I've got some ideas. It's a feature that I'd really like to see pick up here. We can facebook and twitter automatically with the current posts. Good tool for reaching some people.

I'd like to say thanks to all the people who sent such nice words of inspiration and hope. It's good to know such kind folks. Bless.

Sept 2008 : The Summer's End
IRISH MOSS, September 09/08/08, 2008
Greetings All

Hope everyone is doing well. Been busy with a few projects the last few weeks to months. One project I've been involved with has just returned from pressing. DRC aka Da Rebel Cause - Smiling In Da Sun full length LP has just arrived today. We are very happy to see this work come into completion.

What can I say? This is a fantastic hip hop record. The songs hit many different ranges of artistic style and lyrical content. There are reggae vibes and nods throughout. Don't come looking for gangsta rap and bling bling coke raps. It ain't here. This is strictly Revolutionary Hip Hop at it's finest. The LP also features appearances by Binghi Ghost, Jah P and Mark Schwaber.

I'm very proud to be a part of the production of this record. DRC himself will be showcasing the record here at Reggaedubwise.com and will be selling it in mp3 format in the store.

I'm also happy to announce that Ras Amerlock has prepared a remix contest that he and I are getting together at the moment for Science of the Trinity. It will be great to hear the versions that the massive bring forward.

I can't say enough how impressed I am with the music you all are uploading here. There have been some fantastic tracks throughout. It would take a new user months to sort through it all.

One thing I'd like to add quick. People have been very supportive in offering donations to the site and asking what they can do to help make the wheels spin. Here is one very very simple thing. Enter content in the forum. Very easy. By entering criteria in the forum that cross references across the net, people are helping the site immensely. Rave about a new mic. Bash a midi keyboard gone haywire. Tell us about a new release and what label it's on. Etc etc etc. All simple stuff that everyone here likes to read. It helps the site just by being filled with good information. Technique, gear, PC issues.... doesn't matter. Thanks.

Working on a few new things. I'd like to get something up for folks to mix very soon. Long overdue.

Forgive my amateur blog. New to this blog thing. I'll get it.... ;)
Ez y'all
Rob
